Well, this definitely wasn't my most successful One Room Challenge, but I tried! My downfall started with week three. Charlie had to unexpectedly go out of town for a business trip, and I didn't want to paint the room without him seeing the samples in person, so I had planned to paint the weekend he got back. The day he got back I came down with what I'm pretty sure was the flu, and it knocked me out for almost two weeks.
I still hadn't given up hope on getting everything mostly completed until the sofa arrived in the wrong color! After calling Urban Outfitters to see what they could do I was basically told I'm out of luck, and will have to wait another month to get the correct sofa and get rid of the incorrect sofa they delivered. So now I have a giant box in my dining room for the next month that will drive me insane, ha!
It's not all bad news, though. I LOVE the paint color that we finally settled on (which is saying a lot because I'm team white walls all the way). The color changes with the light throughout the day and is such a beautiful, soothing greenish-blue. I'm obsessed. The sheepskin rug isn't staying, my dog just loves to lay on it, so it stays until the new sofa comes in. The blinds in here will be replaced with a woven shade, and I'm still planning to use the green linen drapes from my design plan.
I also love, love the rug that we purchased for the room. And even though his desk area isn't finished, Charlie is happy to have a functional place to work from home.
This was taken before I painted the walls. I'm changing out the drawer hardware to these leather-wrapped pulls, and the legs are being changed to these leather capped hairpin legs. We're also getting a new white computer monitor that blends in better and gets rid of those ugly black cords, and the storage area of his desk will have baskets to cover the stuff that is in there now (and the guitar amp is also obviously not staying here, either).
So, it's not pretty yet, but it will be soon! I've also decided to wait a bit longer before I purchase the shelves. We had planned to stay in this house for another two years, but this past week we've found a new neighborhood that is being built in our ideal area, and there is a possibility that we might be building soon! It's all in the very early stages, but it's almost too good to pass up. New homes in our area have been starting at ridiculous prices, and the houses are ugly boxes with no character and no trees in sight. I met Charlie for lunch the other day and took a different route home to avoid traffic when I noticed the area I was in was super pretty. I started looking around and came across a new neighborhood that is much closer to Charlie's office and very close to where we'd like to end up permanently. I researched them as soon as I got home and was shocked to see that they were also within our budget.
The floor plans also look promising with a little tweaking. We would have room for two home offices, two guest bedrooms, a media room, and a workout room which is 100% everything we need. We're planning to check them out this weekend and start seriously talking about what we'd like to do. The only downside is that a new house won't have a pool, but I've already started researching putting in a plunge pool. Keeping my fingers crossed that this all works out!
As a reminder, this is what I'm hoping for once everything is complete:
