February TJMaxx Finds

I’ll admit that half the time someone compliments something in my house I say “it’s from TJMaxx/HomeGoods!” I also regularly use their website to hunt for client accessories and small furniture pieces, so I thought I would start sharing some of my favorite finds here on the blog so you can shop them for yourself!

>> These wall art pieces are 19”x22” and 20”x20” so they’re a substantial size when paired together. I love the idea of these stacked on the wall at the end of a hallway or above a console in an entryway with tall ceilings. The best part… they’re both only $30!

>> I’m obsessed with these table lamps. They look a little vintage and a little boho, but still feel very fresh. They come in a pair, so they’d be great for your nightstands or used together on a dining room console.

>> I’m forever using Loloi vintage look runner rugs from TJMaxx and HomeGoods. They’re almost always under $50, and work perfectly in kitchens, bathrooms, and laundry rooms where you wouldn’t want to use an expensive vintage rug!

>> A classic marble top paired with a modern tripod base AND under $50? Sign me up. This marble table would be perfect in a nursery next to a rocker, or even next to a free standing bathtub to hold your glass of wine.

>> This is such a great neutral rug that I’ve used it in multiple designs. I’d layer this one over a larger jute rug.

>> These modern wood nightstands are key to updating that often neglected guest bedroom full of mis-matched furniture. I find people often don’t want to spend much to update their guest bedrooms since they are aren’t used much, so at under $100 these are the perfect price point.

>> Woven furniture is very on trend right now which usually means $$$. These woven rope chairs can be used indoors or out, and I’ve never seen them for less than $150, so these babies will probably go fast!

delivery driver thank you treats

While I was cruising through Instagram stories the other day, I came across such a great idea by Zan Farrow. She posted about leaving a basket of treats on your front porch for the delivery drivers who are extremely busy, overworked, and overwhelmed this time of year. I loved this idea because I always want to give them something during the holidays but they hardly ever ring the doorbell, or if they do, they’re gone by the time I can get to the door. I thought this was the perfect opportunity to give them a little treat even though I don’t ever actually see them.

The snacks were a HUGE hit, and every single delivery driver has taken something since I’ve put them out. They’ve all started ringing the doorbell again, and I’ve actually had a few wait for me to open the door before leaving. I plan to use this for multiple years, so I laminated the sign (I have a small laminator leftover from my teaching days, ha!) and taped it to a small plastic container – it only took a few minutes to make! I make sure to bring it in every night so the food doesn’t get eaten by the neighborhood cats and opossums that like to hang out on my porch, but if you left it out every day you could make this a lot cuter with a fun basket or bucket and incorporate it into your front porch decor. Add a few styrofoam discs to the bottom to bring the treats closer to the top, drape some holiday fabric over the styrofoam and the edges of the basket or bucket, arrange a few faux branches and add a chalkboard thank you sign for a super easy and attractive display!

If you don’t want to make your own sign, I’ve included a free PDF that you can print off below:

flocked christmas tree under $100

Hello! I’ve been busy and have neglected this little blog of mine, but one of my 2019 goals is to start blogging again, and there is no time like the present!

These last few months I’ve been paring down the furniture and accessories in our home in preparation for two things: new flooring and new furniture in 2019 (I’ll definitely be blogging about these later). I’m excited to get focused on my home again, and I have a whole list on new projects I want to work on in the new year. As an interior designer I feel like people come to my house expecting to be wowed, or think that I’m happy with how everything looks in my home. In reality, most designers’ homes end up last on the to-do list, and mine is very much a case of the cobbler’s children having no shoes. All of this to say, I cleared out a side chair in our entryway and the empty space was the perfect spot for a slim 7’ flocked tree!

I’ve been wanting one for years, so I was excited to bring one home until I found that every tree I loved cost hundreds of dollars. I’m not willing to invest in Christmas decorations until we get into our forever home in a few years, so these options were out of the question. After searching high and low I found the perfect tree at Walmart of all places! Thankfully my store had them on display so I could see it in person before purchasing. The best part is that it was under $100!

I had planned to DIY a Moroccan inspired tree skirt, but I found this skirt from World Market for a great price on Black Friday. I ended up liking it so much I bought another for our main tree.

I’ve always loved the vintage glass Shiny-Brite ornaments, and I didn’t realize until this year they were still in production. I picked up these small round ornaments* from West Elm and this set of vintage style glass balls* which are definitely my favorite! I mixed them with this pink and gold glittery set from Michael’s as well as this pink glitter set and this shiny pink glass set that are only $4/each! If you want the real deal, Etsy and One Kings Lane* also have great vintage sets.

They still have the 7’ tree (what we used) available online and in store, but these sell out quickly! If they sell out online, you can also find the same tree available here* for a slightly higher price.
