clutter be gone!

I'm still working on my New Year's resolution to declutter. It's a long process going through absolutely everything we own, but I know it will all pay off soon. I probably should have taken a before picture of our guest bedroom and closet, but just know that it was really, really bad. It was full of a million leftover wedding things, plus a bunch of my teaching stuff, plus holiday decorations, plus all of my clothes, shoes, and home decor that I no longer wanted. Yeah, bad. I finally cleared it out and sorted it into donate, sell in garage sale, or sell online piles. The closet is almost complete except for a small pile of clothes that I plan to sell online. I'm excited that I can finally fit our elliptical in here that I can now easily slide in and out when I use it. We used to keep it in our guest room, but it took up a ton of space.
Unfortunately, now our hallway and entryway now look like we belong on an episode of Hoarders.
If you know me at all, you know that clutter gives me anxiety, but I know that the mess has to get worse before it can get better. Unfortunately this stuff has to sit here for the next week until we haul it up to Oklahoma to put into a garage sale. While we're in Oklahoma I'm hopefully finally going to get around to making the curtains for our bedroom. I've had the fabric since November, so it's about time I get them done!

organize

Another one of my New Year's resolutions is to get organized. I'm not particularly unorganized, but my goal is to live more simply, and with less clutter. Our guest bedroom is currently a disaster zone because it is where I am putting everything that I don't want into donate and sell piles, but the rest of the house is coming along rather nicely. I'm following this daily guide to declutter. Here are some other things that I've used to help me out:

I'm probably the only person that gets super excited to purchase new containers for organizing.  Good thing I live next to The Container Store :)

cleaning out

While Charlie was gone I did a lot of cleaning and finally got around to listing a million wedding items online. I'm so ready to get all of this clutter out of here! It's been piled in our guest bedroom closet for two months and every time I have to go in there I cringe. Now, hopefully it all sells!

Anyway, while I was cleaning I came upon hundreds of cards. I have literally saved nearly every single card that I have received in my life. I even have cards from the day I was born! I decided that I probably can't keep doing this for the rest of my life without taking up tons of space.

Luckily, I recently came across an idea on Pinterest to go through and decide which cards are truly important (hello, day of birth card!) and keep these. Then scan the rest onto your computer and donate them. I love that I'm getting rid of clutter and able to help someone at the same time! I thought I'd share this with you so you can make sure to keep this in mind for the upcoming holiday season!
